When it comes to escapisms I like to consider myself an expert. There is nothing like running away from my multitude of problems, to a world of wizards, dragons, magic and war. The fantasy trope has been done thousands of times, in a million different ways, but it never seems to bore me. It almost has the opposite effect in seeing what someone’s take on this thing that so many have done before them. So that is where I decided to apply my efforts, in the world of epic fantasy. The endless possibilities of world building and design make for a writers dream. Or at least this writer.

“Forged in Ice, Frozen in Flame” is a tale centered around a group of dwarves and a rouge mage. They soon realize they are faced with the seemingly impossible task, of proving the innocence of a friend, and exposing the true intentions of a community-trusted leader. When the monsters that dwell in the shadows of Mount Malnoran begin to rise from the dead, the group learns that the treachery is far deeper than what they originally thought, and the consequences could be irreversible. Magically or otherwise.

My idea coming into this project was to combine all the things that I love about not only fantasy, but story telling in general. The reason I added the “monsters that dwell…rise from the dead” was because I wanted to explore the depravity that is apocalyptical circumstances. And no story does this better, in my opinion, than “The Walking Dead”. The extreme circumstances of TWD exploits that absolute worst attributes of the human condition, while also fostering the very best that we are capable of. Mix in a little magic, a few dragons, a dwarf or two and there you have it: “Forged in Ice, Frozen in Flame” While I’m no Robert Kirkman or George R.R. Martin, I do thoroughly enjoy telling complex stories. And the idea of mixing societal class structures, political agendas, religious zealots, with a dash of zombie werewolves? Full send! I’m here for it. I hope you will be too.

In the coming weeks I’ll be releasing excerpts from each chapter, and hope to garner a bit of your intrigue. This story is fun, but also takes the reader on a journey through The Lands, while introducing them to a world full of magic, secrets and zombies. What’s not to like? Let me know what you think, as we begin this quest, together. Because I’m not even done writing it!
